Temporary Research Positions at OIST, Japan
Topology and Geometry of Manifolds unit at Okinawa Institute of
Science and Technology invites applications for two Postdoctoral
Scholar and two Scientist positions. For Postdoctoral Scholar
positions, PhD should be awarded not earlier than August 2012. For
Scientists, there is no limit for the number of years after PhD. If
needed, a Scientist position can be taken while on an unpaid leave
from a position at another institution. For Postdoctoral Scholars the
appointment is for 2 years, starting September 2017. There might be an
opportunity to renew it for one or two more years. For Scientists, the
appointment is for a term from six months to two years (at least one
year is preferred), with a flexible starting date. The positions do
not carry teaching duties. Candidates must be willing to contribute to
Topology and Geometry of Manifolds group meetings, and to mentoring
student research. Inquiries may be directed to Dr. Anastasiia
Tsvietkova and/or to

Postdoctoral position in Algebraic Geometry at the University of Porto
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position (BPD) within the project Geometry of Algebraic Varieties (PTDC/MAT-GEO/2823/2014) funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Portugal). Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics or in a related field, preferably obtained less than 6 years ago and have research experience in one of the main research areas of the project: Algebraic Surfaces and Moduli spaces (especially of Higgs bundles). The initial contract will be for 12 months, renewable for another 12 months on mutual agreement. The expected starting date is January 1, 2017 though some flexibility may be possible. The successful candidate will be based at the Centre for Mathematics of the University of Porto (Faculty of Sciences) and work under the supervision of one of the senior members of the project, Peter Gothen, Margarida Mendes Lopes, André Oliveira or Carlos Rito. The deadline for applications is November 21, 2016. For more information, please see the project website. Questions can be addressed to Peter Gothen <>.

CNRS postdoctoral position, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES)

Applications are invited for a CNRS postdoctoral position in mathematics at IHES (France) beginning September 2017 to be funded by the ERC Starting Grant "Discrete Groups and Geometric Structures". The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible renewal for a second year. Application deadline: November 23, 2016

We are looking for a candidate with a strong research potential, interested in investigating discrete subgroups of Lie groups acting on various geometric spaces. Particular attention will be paid to candidates who already have some experience working on one of the following topics: discrete subgroups of Lie groups, Teichmüller or Higher Teichmüller theory, dynamics on character varieties, geometric structures on manifolds (hyperbolic geometry, convex projective geometry, Lorentzian or more generally pseudo-Riemannian geometry, etc.).
