Workshops and conferences

GEAR is not accepting new applications
to this program.
GEAR will support workshops of the following types:
- Border-Crossing Workshops, i.e. workshops which bring together members from at least two different mathematical areas with the aim of increasing the expertise of each group in the other field and thus initiating new interactions.
- Focused Workshops, i.e. workshops which bring together groups of network members in order to discuss in detail a focused mathematical topic.
- Regional Mini-Workshops, i.e. workshops organized around one hub or node for the nodes in its vicinity. These mini-workshops might focus on a specific mathematical topic as well as on recent developments within the network
- Log Cabin Meetings, i.e. workshops proposed by, organized by, and for the benefit of junior GEAR members (i.e. graduate students and postdocs). These meetings, focusing on topics which rely on the interaction of different mathematical fields falling under the GEAR umbrella, are especially encouraged. Network members at U.S. nodes are encouraged to submit proposals for all of the above. Support will be provided in the form of a subaward to the proposer’s home institution. While the terms of a subaward require that this home institution be in the U.S., the location of the meeting may be elsewhere.
Proposals may be submitted at any time but should be made well in the advance of the proposed activity. Proposals will be evaluated on their scientific merits as well as the timeliness and strength of proposed management plan.
Organizers of supported events are required to submit a brief final report at the end of the event. Click here to submit your report online.
Please note that the regulations of the National Science Foundation impose the following restrictions on funding by GEAR:
- Foreign participants at nodes outside the U.S. are eligible for funding to travel to U.S. nodes but NOT to nodes outside the U.S.
- Foreign participants at US nodes are eligible for funding to travel to any node.
- U.S. citizens or permanent residents at any node are eligible for funding to travel to any other node.
