Graduate Internships
July 8, 2021: This program has re-opened and is accepting applications subject to the conditions listed below.
Graduate students from any node are eligible to apply for internships to work with network members at other institutions.
Applications should include a description of how the internship will be spent, a letter of sponsorship from the proposed mentor at the host institution, and a letter of support from a supervisor at the home institution.
Conditions
All GEAR funds must be spent before August 31, 2022. In order to spread the benefit as widely as possible, and in keeping with the core mission of our network, we will use the remaining funds to support short (up to two weeks) visits between GEAR members. Please note that
- Funding simply to attend a conference with not be allocated. The primary purpose of a visit should be for collaboration. In particular, local expenses during the time of a meeting will not be covered.
- Until further notice travel must be within the United States.
- The visits must be completed before August 31, 2022.
- Members and postdocs should apply through the Short-Term program link; graduate students should use the Graduate Internship program link.
- Applications will be dealt with on a first-come-first-served basis until all funds are committed.
- Travel and accommodation expenses are allowed, but GEAR no longer pays per diem expenses.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that travel plans and visit arrangements comply with all applicable COVID restrictions, especially those imposed by participants’ home institutions (and host institution, if that’s not a home institution of any participant). Failure to do so may jeopardize reimbursement of expenses.
Deadlines
The GEAR Executive Committee meets once a month, usually on the first Tuesday of the month, to review applications to all GEAR programs. Decisions are announced and award letters sent out within a few days of the meetings.
Next meeting: Wednesday, September 8, 2021
Deadline for consideration at next meeting: Monday, September 6, 2021
